With 250 years of heritage, Gepp Solicitors are one of the largest and longest established law firms in Essex, offering a full legal service with a personal approach to business and private clients. They approached Spacio to design and build a new workspace that would showcase a beautiful harmony between the old and the new.

The Brief
Collaboration was at the heart of this project and incorporated a series of scoping and planning workshops with the Gepp to allow the Spacio team to fully explore their vision and understand how the office needed to function on a daily and team structure basis.
Involving the team at these early stages meant the excitement for the new space was already building. Through the workshops their ambitions, wants and needs were identified to help illustrate a full brief and project plan. From the outset creative concepts incorporated elements of Gepp’s history, such as the original ledgers and other historical artifacts.

The Space
As the business were moving to a very different space, a lot of time was given to the flow and movement around the environment. The new office needed to host multiple client meetings of differing sizes throughout the entire day. Therefore, the building was designed in two halves, the ground floor being a meeting suite, with its own drinks area, comfortable waiting room and a large variety of rooms from 1 person zoom rooms, up to large 14 person conference room.
The meeting spaces on the ground floor is designed to be a continuation of the Gepp brand. The rooms are all decorated in different styles, but they all have a touch of Gepp’s heritage. For example, the smoking lounge is decorated with vegan leather chesterfields and a vintage bookcase, which is filled with Gepp’s original ledgers.

The Build
Journeying up to the first floor, the full height atrium space adds a level of drama, including 8m high acoustic wood effect baffles to help with noise dampening. Stepping into the open plan office the raised ceiling height and natural light floods the space. All of the workspace is for agile working; the rows of desking are broken up with collaboration tables and plenty of colour, inviting users to choose where to sit dependent on that task or day. Furniture was purposefully designed to be an eclectic mix throughout, giving depth, intrigue, and a nod to the long history of Gepp.
A large kitchen was situated on the first floor also, allowing the team a place to step away from their working space. Mixtures of seating types were introduced to allow for users to choose how they wish to use the space. Flooring changes and small details were included to give the area a different feel, whilst also working with the rest of the design. A bespoke feature was also installed to the full ceiling height over 6m, created with a custom metal frame and hand threaded elastic cord, providing a screen between the kitchen and office space.

The Impact
The new Gepp office is a great example of how a well-designed office space can reflect a company’s heritage and values. The space is both comfortable and stylish whilst providing Gepp Solicitors with a productive workspace that has exceeded their expectations across both form and function.
